item size and guidelines
The Following Guidelines are for the City Service
Bulk waste items are loaded by hand into a rear-loading waste collection vehicle. To make it easier to pick-up the bulk waste material and help prevent littering, the items must be bagged, boxed, or bundled according to established rules and guidelines. All items must be cut or broken down to a 4 ft length or smaller and must not weigh more than 70lbs. The collection crew has the discretion to refuse any items or materials that do not meet the guidelines outlined below.
Yard Waste
You can bag, box, or bundle excess yard waste (no grass clippings). Boxes must be 30 gallons or smaller (size of a standard garbage can). Please do not set boxes out in wet weather. The bottoms may fall out, creating a mess. Properly prepared items must be placed on the curb by 6:30 a.m., free of obstruction, on the scheduled collection day as advertised. Please ensure easy and safe access to your bulk waste piles.
Grass Clippings
You can dispose of your grass clippings by putting them in a plastic bag and/or dumping them on top of the other garbage in your regular roll-out garbage container for weekly collection. Grass clippings are NOT TO BE PUT OUT for bulk waste collection.
Branches & Shrub Trimmings
leaflimbBranches and limbs (4 inches or less in diameter) must be tied in bundles less than 18 inches in thickness. They cannot be longer than 5 ft. and must weigh less than 75 lbs. per bundle. Shrub trimmings and other yard waste will be collected if properly contained. Loose piles of yard waste and trimmings WILL NOT BE COLLECTED.
Appliances & Furniture
Appliances that DO NOT contain Freon will be collected (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, or water coolers). Appliances that have had the Freon removed by a certified technician will be collected if documentation is attached. Furniture, carpet and padding, sofas, mattresses, and water heaters are also collected.
Construction or Demolition Debris
Debris from major construction and demolition projects WILL NOT BE COLLECTED with the bulk waste service. If it is leftovers from last weekend’s home improvement or remodeling project, we will take it if it is boxed, bagged, or bundled. Disposal of major construction or demolition debris requires special arrangements. ACE Disposal can arrange this service for you.
Household Garbage
Every day household garbage, such as food waste and packaging, must be disposed of in your regular roll-out garbage container for weekly collection. The health department requires the collection of such material on a weekly basis. If you consistently generate more garbage than your container will hold, a second container may be needed. The additional container may be requested through the City for an extra charge.
Hazardous Materials
Flammable material such as oil, gas, or paint products and hazardous or toxic waste such as solvents, motor oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze, tires, batteries, pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals are considered to be household hazardous waste and WILL NOT BE COLLECTED. You may call your local city/county health department for information regarding the disposal of these hazardous materials.
Non-Collectable Items
Commercial, industrial, and business waste is prohibited. We DO NOT COLLECT contractor-produced waste of any kind. Dirt, rocks, sod, bricks, broken concrete, major construction or demolition debris, household hazardous waste, and 55 gallon drums WILL NOT BE COLLECTED.
Holiday Schedule
The holiday schedule for picking up bulk waste is the same as for regular garbage collection service. If your collection day falls on Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day or after the holiday during the same week, it will be collected one day later for the remainder of the week.

What Others Are Saying
I had an awesome Random Act of Kindness today! I overslept this morning, drifting back to sleep. I heard the garbage man go by and jumped up to run out and take my forgotten bins to the street. I didn't actually see him, but it looked like he had gone down my side of the street. So I ran all 4 big bins to the opposite side of the street then watched out the door to make sure all went well. When he got to my house he stopped, got out of his truck and started moving them back to my side. When I went out to help, he had them done and told me he had already gone to the opposite side. As any mom's know, a missed garbage day is a big deal! I really appreciated him going that extra mile not only to notice but stop and help me correct it! - Annette Axford
To the driver of the ACE Disposal truck #453, you deserve a high five smile emoticon. My son and I witnessed him walk up the driveway of an elderly man, pull both of his garbage cans down for him, dump them, and then went and put them back. My son said Garbage Truck drivers don't get enough credit, he sees them do things like that all the time. So, thanks for all you guys do! - Debra Anderton
I am a police officer for SLC. I just wanted to thank one of your drivers. He moved a large rock that was blocking traffic for us at 3755 W California Ave this morning. He saved us a lot of time and help countless people get to work on time. He was a stand up guy and I didn't get to say thanks.
Jeanie H. resident of Bountiful called. She said that her neighbors recycle can was blocked today, and she watched the driver get out of his truck, moved the can out, dumped it, and put it back. She said it was great and knew he didn't have to do that but, was happy the driver went above and beyond exceptions and wanted us to know about it.
